Globeriders Cape2Cape is a group South Africans who are crossing just about the entire globe by 4x4 from 2007 until 2010. From Port Elizabeth to the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, by 2010, the Globeriders will have covered 5 continents, 70 countries and 156 000km! Globeriders Cape2Cape is also the first group of South Africans to cross the globe by 4x4 with children! The group of eleven - seven adults and four children from a previously disadvantaged community in the Nelson Mandela Metropole (Port Elizabeth), among them, have expertise in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, entrepreneurship, information technology and human resources. The Globeriders are backed by the Department of Foreign Affairs. In addition, Ms Joy Sebenzile P Matsebula, who has worked as a Director in the Presidency, and is currently an Executive Director of the African Access Company, has agreed to be a patron of the project. The purpose of the journey is to fulfil a dream shared by the group, but also for them to be ambassadors for their community, their city, South Africa and the Continent. The Globeriders realise the responsibility this role carries, and are excited to spread the message of ubuntu, the South African philosophy of “I am because of other people”, and promote a sense of interconnectedness globally. Finally, the Globeriders plan to actively promote South Africa as a tourism destination, and spread the message of South Africa: Alive with possibility. They also plan to use their expertise to the benefit of people they meet along their journey, especially in terms of medical advice and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Because of the passion of their patron, Ms Matsebula, for promotion of human rights and quality of life for disabled people, the Globeriders will also promote these values, and showcase the South African model of “social development and human rights.”

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover".
