GR3 EPILOGUE - 11 March 2007 to 5 December 2008

At times, it's hard to believe that 2 years have passed by and that we'll be back in South Africa . We've been privileged to have been able to realise a big part of our dream and remain cognisant of the many blessings we've received. But for now, it's time to return to sunny SA. Vanita has had ‘enough' of our ‘life-in-the-van' and have now spent one too many hours on the road; travelling from city to city, country to country and continent to continent, and feels that it's now time to return to our ‘normal' lives back home. Vanita has sacrificed so much and although I'm (Dean) disappointed that we (GR3) could not complete what we have set out to do, I can honestly say that it was an easy decision to make…that of returning home. After all, our family's happiness is our first priority and we have always said that this journey will continue for as long as we were all having fun. So, for now we are to return home, with a wealth of experiences that enriched not just our minds, but our souls as well. As a family; we have shared in many adventures, together we marvelled at all the evidences of man's tenacity of the centuries, and together we enjoyed and embraced the many varied and interesting cultures that we encountered en-route, but above all, we have also all matured in so many different ways……both individually and more importantly, as a family. This, after all, was what our ‘Journey of a Lifetime' was to be about, but in retrospect, I guess you could say that our journey was one of discovery.

As our final note, we would like to wish GR1 a safe journey ahead and remain confident that they will complete what eleven of us started two years ago. We would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt emails that in many ways provided us with the strength to continue, especially when the going got tough. We would also like to thank all our sponsors, especially Continental Tyre SA. With their support and sponsorship, we were brought that much closer to realising our dreams.

Finally, we ask for all those following our story on the web and in newspaper articles to remember the DICAG Centre….our adopted charity. We plead for them to donate whatever they can afford, so that at the end of this journey, we are able to donate some much needed funds to the centre.

Once again, thanks to all those that made our “Journey of a Lifetime”, a journey to remember!!

Love

Dean, Vanita, Zack and Troy from 'My Van' (GR3)

PS. Who knows what tomorrow holds….lets not stop dreaming!!
